Lefkada or Lefkas is a popular Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece. One of the reasons Lefkas is so popular is its great transport connection. Island is connected to the mainland with a long causeway and floating bridge and the nearest airport is only 25km away in Akton. Because of the bridge there are no ferries from the mainland to the Lefkas Island but there are lots of ferries that go to and from the nearby islands.
How ever, great transport connection doesn’t mean much if you have nothing to offer to the tourists and Lefkas most definitely has something to offer. The first and most popular reason for visiting Lefkas are island numerous beautiful beaches like Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Gialos, Kathisma, on the west side of the island. Dessimi, Lygia, Nikiana on the east side. Gyra, Kastro on the north side and Aghiofili or Mikros Gialos on the south side of the island. Almost all beaches are spectacular white sand beaches that are poster pictures for all of Greek tourism. Despite the fact that almost all beaches here are spectacular they all attract different type of tourists, some beaches like Porto Katsiki are crowded with people and they are the main tourist attractions, other ones like Ai Yiannis are heaven for wind and kite surfers due to very good conditions for water sports in that particular area.
